The pilots that would take Apollo 17 to The Moon
Harrison SchmittLUNAR MODULE PILOTHarrison Schmitt was an American astronaut from Santa Rica, New Mexico. Harrison graduated from Western High School and went on to receive a B.S. degree in geology from the California Institute of Technology in 1957, and then spent a year studying geology at the University of Oslo in Norway, eventually receiving a Ph.D. in geology from Harvard University. Harrison was chosen to join NASA in the 1965 Scientist selection. Apollo 17 was his first and only flight, but this was so only after considerable efforts from scientists to put a fully qualified geologist on the moon.

Ronald EvansCOMMAND MODULE PILOTRonald Evans Jr., was an American astronaut from St. Francis, Kansas. He graduated from Highland Park High School in Topeka, Kansas, received a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Kansas in 1956, and a Master of Science degree in Aeronautical Engineering from the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School in 1964.who was chosen to be an astronaut in the 1966 NASA group 5 selection. He was part of the support crews for Apollo 7 and Apollo 11 flights, and backup Command Module Pilot for Apollo 14, but his first and only flight was Apollo 17.

Eugene CernanCOMMANDEREugene Cernan was an American astronaut from Chicago, Illinois, where graduated from Proviso East High School, he entered Purdue University, where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering. He eventually received a Master of Science degree in Aeronautical Engineering from the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School in 1963.who was selected for the Apollo and Gemini missions in October, 1963.
Eugene had flown on the Gemini 9A mission, (after the original crew died,) along with Apollo 10 and Apollo 17. Eugene Cernan is currently retired. |
